Norwegian courses
Welcome to our courses in Norwegian for speakers of other languages! After a few courses you will find that you are able to cope in Norwegian with most of the situations you meet in Norwegian daily life.


Notice - New from 2010:
From 2010 our Norwegian language programme will consist of 7 levels rather than 6. The change means that the first coursebook we use (På vei) will now cover 3 levels as opposed to the previous 2 and will therefore require participants to complete 3 language courses.

In addition, we have the course Forberedelseskurs til Bergenstesten (previously "Level 7") which is specially designed to prepare students for the Bergenstest (more information can be found in the course descriptions).

We offer:

  • *7 levels of ordinary courses + Forberedelseskurs til Bergenstesten
  • Courses where you will progress quickly
  • 48 teaching hours (45 minutes) per course, divided into 4 hour classes
  • Daytime courses 4 days a week for 3 weeks, start at 08.45 or 12.45
  • Evening courses twice a week, Monday + Wednesday or Tuesday+Thursday. Start at 17.15
  • Classes with a maximum of 18 students
  • Classes in which use of non-target language is kept to a minimum
  • Regular homework assignments
  • An integrated skills approach (speaking, writing, listening, language focus)
  • Insights into and exploration of Norwegian culture and history

  • * Participants must be familiar with the Latin alphabet.

    1. Find your level to take a Placement Test or see the Commom European Framework of Reference for Languages (HTML)
    2. Click on the correct level (course name) under "courses" (underneath). You may then choose when you want to study.
    3 Click on your course and Jeg vil melde meg på kurset- button
    4. Complete the application by filling in your name, the date of birth, your current address, telephone number and e-mail
    5. Read through the contract carefully
    6. Click in the litte square contact.
    7. At the end, submit by pressing the Jeg vil melde meg på-button. Please note that registration is binding

    Courses:

    Level 0 - A2

    Norwegian course 1
    Study material: På vei, chapters 1-6, text and workbook)
    This course is for beginners. You will acquire basic language skills in Norwegian combined with an introduction to Norwegian culture and society. Homework assignments are a key komponent of our courses and are essential in making progress.

    Norwegian course 2
    Study material: På vei, chapters 7-11, text and workbook.
    This course is for those who have basic knowledge of Norwegian language and culture. You will now broaden your language skills while you learn more about Norwegian culture and society. Homework assignments are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress.

    Norwegian course 3
    Study material: På vei, chapters 12-17, text and workbook.
    Oral communication and expanding language skills and vocabulary play a central role in this course. The cultural and social Norwegian plays an essential part in this level, supplemented with additional learning material. Homework assignments are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress.

    Level B1

    Norwegian course 4
    Study material: Stein på stein, chapters 1-7, text and workbook.
    The course develops further on language skills that you learnt in previous courses. At this stage, we focus more on Norwegian culture and social life; in addition you will expand vocabulary and analyse the Norwegian language in more depth. Homework assignments are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress.

    Norwegian course 5
    Study material: Stein på stein, chapters 8-14, text and workbook.
    In this course you sharpen your language skills based on what you had in previous courses. Some grammar topics are repeated and you will be assigned more writing exercises. Oral activities are also an important component of this course, there will be discussions on current topics. Homework assignment are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress. After this course you will be able to take Norskprøve 3.

    Level B2

    Norwegian course 6
    Study material: Her på berget, chapters 1-7, text and workbook
    In this course you will strengthen your language skills further. You will increase your fluency and will increase your vocabulary. In addition you will improve writing skills. Text and discussions will be held on Norwegian living standards and Norwegian society. Homework assingments are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress.

    Norwegian course 7
    Study material: Her på berget, chapters 8-14, text and workbook
    This is an advanced level course where both oral and written language skills play a central role. Central topics are Norwegian history and culture which are discussed in depth throughout the course. Homework assignments are a key component of our courses and are essential in making progress. After completing this course you should be able to take Norwegian test on a higher level (Bergenstesten) or you can continue to Forberedelseskurs (preparation course) til Bergenstesten.

    Level C1

    Forberedelseskurs til Bergenstesten
    This course is intended primarily for those who want to prepare well for the advanced level - Norwegian test on a higher level (Bergenstesten). This test provides documentation of Norwegian language skills which is accepted by all universities, high schools, Government institutes and businesses in Norway. This course focuses on the types of exercises (particularly writing) encountered in the examination. The course may, however, also be useful to anyone seeking to work with the language at an advanced level. You will be expected to do written homework assingments.

    Other courses

    Norsk for skandinaver (Norwegian for Scandinavians)
    This course is for those who have Danish or Swedish as native language or are familiar with these languages and want to acquire froficiency in Norwegian language. The course focuses on grammar rules in Norwegian, right pronunciation and word description. In addition students will also work with different texts which will help them to use Norwegian in daily life, both written and oral.

    During this course we will also go through important differences between the Scandinavian languages, which will help you to produce correct and appropriate writing in Norwegian, such as official letters, reports and messages. Some parts of this course are held on internet.

    Oppfriskningskurs i norsk grammatikk
    Have you completed the basic Norwegian courses but still lack confidence when it comes to writing? Or has it been a while since you took a Norwegian language course and are looking to refresh your language skills? On this course we cover in detail those areas of the Norwegian language which cause learners the most headaches such as topics like prepositions, conjugation of nouns and sentence structure.
    This course is suitable for those who are at B1 level in CEFR (European Framwork).

    Skrivekurs i norsk som fremmedspråk
    Do you need writing practice? Are you unsure how to frame different types of texts? Would you like to learn how to formulate your ideas more clearly in writing? On this hands-on course you will practise writing miscellaneous texts that many need in their professional life such as reports, references, letters and articles. Some parts of this course are held on the internet. This course is suitable for those who do not have Norwegian as a native language and who want to improve their writing skills.
    Your spoken level must equivalent to B2 in CEFR (European Framework).
